The National Economic Forum 2023 was organized by the National Chamber Of Commerce & Industry Of Malaysia (NCCIM) on 18th May 2023 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Center.
Some notes from the event:
Keynote Address by Rafizi Ramli, Minister of Economy
Where and How to Grow: Digital and green economy
The role of government is critical in directing where money flows.
Structural reform though painful is necessary.
At that inflection point, we don’t miss the window of opportunities, again.
The Ministry of Economy works more on Structural Economic Reform, while the Ministry of Finance works more on fiscal policy.
Address by Steven Sim Chee Keong, Deputy Minister of Finance
We are a nation on a mission
Commited to catching up
That was a statement keep emphasized by the Deputy Minister of Finance, Steven Sim Chee Keong during the address in the afternoon session.
- Ensuring sustainable economic growth
- More efficient and progressive taxation
- Greater fiscal discipline, accountability and transparency
On a huge amount of debt, 2 key questions to ask:
- For what purposes? Strategic development.
- Ability to pay back?
It takes political iron will.
Malaysia’s Economic Outlook: Are We On The Right Track?
Guest speaker Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Noor Azlan Ghazali, on the topic “Malaysia’s Economic Outlook: Are We On The Right Track?”:
It’s about how we run the nation as a whole.
Are we on track?
Which track? 😅
A nation that knows 90% of the problems but is not able to address them till the end. For now.
Personal Notes
Cars will fly, birds will die.
“Birdcident” due to flying cars, lol.
On the course of de-dollarization and formation of a multipolar world/system, how would things progress from Asean perspective? What next after the ASEAN Finance Minister and Central Bank Governors Meeting in Bali?
- ASEAN Currency
- BRICS+, where ASEAN is part of it, or
- both?
What are the options for formulating Gold Standard 2.0 and where do we stand?
After all, money makes the world goes round.
