Labuan Island, Malaysia

Labuan is an island federal territory of Malaysia. A short 3D2N stay for some business related matters with a road trip touring the island.

Labuan Island is a federal territory of Malaysia best known as an offshore financial center that has been offering international financial and business services via Labuan IBFC since 1990.

It is also being known as an offshore support hub for deepwater oil and gas activities in the region.

Labuan, Pearl of Borneo

It was quite interesting to spot the positioning of Labuan as Pearl of Borneo after landing at the airport.

First evening scene with purple sky after check-in at Tiara Labuan Resort.

The perfect spot for sunrise from suite 422. And gratefully captured this photo that truly reflects Labuan as the Pearl of Borneo.

Tiara Labuan Resort Hotel

There are these villas next to the Tiara Labuan Resort.

The Grill at Tiara Labuan

Wall Pictures at The Grill Restaurant

A few of the images hanging on the wall caught my attention, and they reminded me of Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations.

“It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own self-interest. We address ourselves not to their humanity but to their self-love, and never talk to them of our own necessities, but of their advantages” ~ Adam Smith, An Inquiry into the Nature & Causes of the Wealth of Nations, Vol 1

Mawilla Yacht Club Restaurant

Saw this cute little roundabout while walking towards the town area from resort, in search for dinner.

Mawilla Yacht Club Restaurant was one of the recommended places for nice seafood on the internet.

Labuan Town

Labuan is a small town with quite jammed traffic.

Had a hi-tea at an old shop near the roundabout.

Cars

A classic Jaguar parked in front of Tiara Labuan Resort.

Took this yellow Toyota MR-S to tour Labuan Island beaches.

Spotted a Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 while taking a road trip to beaches surrounding Labuan Island.

Trip Summary

While the island is not big, it still has around 100,000 residents. Compared to Penang or Kamakurakokomae, they all have their unique identities and attractions.

Lucky to have a free room upgrade and be able to capture quite a few nice, unique photos during this trip.
