The Digital Economy Summit 2023 was held in Hong Kong from 13th-14th April 2023. Attended the Visionary Forum and Chambers Forum on day 1, and Fintech Forum on day 2, among the programs.
Emerging with Resilience: Fostering a Smarter Future
The DES (rebranded from the Internet Economy Summit, IES) unveiled global and regional visions on how smart city technologies will supercharge smart economies as well as accelerate the formation of futureproof digital societies.
Personally, the event provided informative ideas and solutions, proven by achievements made by various parties, good for the movement of ABCDE The World.
Worth noting is that rather than conceptional ideas or theoretical planning, most presented what had been done and what had been achieved to date, using real-world achievements as the case studies.

In this forum, prominent industry experts shared insights on how the exponential growth of future technology is defining the new normal of smart economies and re-create future sustainable societies.
Digital Innovation Driving Low-Carbon Development
Keynote 3 of day 1 was delivered by Dr Will Cavendish, Global Leader of Digital Services, Arup.
The generative design was one that caught my attention.

Autonomous Driving Empowers Smart City Construction
Keynote 7 of day 1 was delivered by Dr Luyi Mo, Vice President and Head of Guangzhou-Shenzhen R&D Center, Pony.ai
One of the slides shared showed a reporter looking at a driverless passenger car, from inside a taxi (or e-hailing). The future is already here, just not evenly distributed. How soon will most of people’s job be replaced?

Fintech Forum – Reshaping the Digital Economy with Web3 and Virtual Assets
The forum explored the potential of Web3 and virtual assets to drive innovation and growth in the digital economy, as well as other key driving forces transforming the digital economy, including carbon market development and digital innovation in the traditional financial sector.
Building an Interconnected and Coherent Digital Financial Infrastructure
Keynote 3 of day 2 was delivered by Dr Rocky Cheng, Chief Information Officer, Bank of China (Hong Kong)
As Hong Kong is committed to becoming the digital economy leader, digital financial infrastructure is essential. Tokenized Green Bond is one successful use case and something worth further exploring.
Keynote 3 ended with a summary “Recognize what we need, get ready for the future, then we can lead.”
